Leading County in Digital Government Furthers Ongoing Commitment To Serve Hispanics
ORLANDO, FL and COCONUT CREEK, FL (Dec. 16, 2005) - In an innovative step to meet the growing needs of its Hispanic population, the government of Orange County, Florida, announced today the launch of a complete Spanish-language version of its award-winning website. The first such site among Florida's largest counties, this version of the website can be accessed by clicking on the "Disponible En Español" ("Available in Spanish") tab on the County's homepage, www.OrangeCountyFL.net.
Orange County is nationally recognized as a leader in providing online governmental resources, and its website has received several prestigious awards, including a 2004 "Best of the Web" award from the Center for Digital Government. The site offers current and continuously updated information on government operations, public safety issues, printable forms and access to several online services. With the current launch, the entire Orange County website is now fully accessible to its Spanish-speaking residents and visitors.
"Hispanics represent over 22% of Orange County's population," said Mayor Richard T. Crotty. "It's vitally important that we provide full access to all information and services available on our website."
Orange County's research confirmed that traditional translation solutions are ill-suited for websites. Cumbersome, risky, and expensive when applied to the web, these traditional solutions are difficult to deploy and maintain. "Fortunately, we found an innovative solution that simplifies deployment, ensures superior translation quality, and makes timely updates to the site," Mayor Crotty added. "No additional IT resources were required by us. Best of all, the price was very affordable."
Orange County used MotionPoint Corporation's proprietary TransMotion® technology to deploy its Spanish website while meeting the high quality parameters and conservative fiscal management constraints that often accompany governmental initiatives. Going forward, Orange County will maintain its English-language website exactly has it has done in the past. MotionPoint will maintain the Spanish-language version of the site.
"We're pleased to assist Orange County in providing this service to its Hispanic residents," said Will Fleming, CEO of MotionPoint. "We're equally pleased that the county now offers a fully-translated site to the thousands of Spanish-speaking residents and visitors who visit its website every day. This is an exciting addition."
